pocetna-konferencija

The town of Lipik has been preparing for greater exploitation of the geothermal sources which it lies on, and now they have officially started the process of researching their geothermal potential with partners from Iceland.

Today was held the initial conference of the project “Preparation of technical documentation for the “Lipik” research area”, which is financed from the EEA financial mechanism within the implementation of the “Energy and Climate Change” Program, and is worth almost 250,000 euros.

Lipik, as is known, already uses its geothermal sources for treatment, bathing and drinking. No, they now believe that in the context of major changes in the energy market with natural and renewable resources, they have the opportunity to make a step forward that could improve the city economically and socially. Among other things, the City believes that with the use of geothermal energy in the energy company, it would be easier to attract new investors.

We highly appreciate the visit of our island partners as well as their experiences. We just started talking and agreed that we have a lot in common. Of course, we also appreciate their willingness to share their experiences in the field of geothermal energy. Although we have been using geothermal water in Lipik for a long time, with this project we are making a new step forward in the use of geothermal energy. Talking with our friends from the island, we agreed that our current exploitation of geothermal sources is the bare minimum, and the potentials are huge – Mayor Kasana said.

GeoCamp will transfer its knowledge about the possibilities of utilizing geothermal energy to the City of Lipik. Director Arnbjorn Ólafsson first greeted the attendees in Croatian: “Dobar dan”.

First of all, I would like to thank our hosts and Mayor Vinko Kasana for their exceptional hospitality. You mentioned that you will learn from the best. But I must say that we on the Island are still learning how to use geothermal energy. We have been using it since we settled Iceland, more than 1000 years ago. But for the first 1000 years we used geothermal water for bathing, washing clothes and cooking. It was only less than 100 years ago that we started using it to heat our houses, which is very important for a country called the Ice Land. And only recently have we been using geothermal energy in fishing, agriculture and tourism. So we are still finding new ways to use geothermal energy. So we are also here to learn from you – Olafsson said.
