GOALS OF THE PROJECT

The ultimate goal and long-term strategic plan for the use of geothermal potential in the area of the city of Lipik is combined use of it for the purposes of heating existing public facilities in the area of the city of Lipik, and potentialy for the purpose of economic development, for example, in greenhouse. Also, the applicant plans to integrate the use of geothermal energy with other renewable energy sources, such as solar energy.

Investing in the possibility of using local geothermal potential for energy purposes will directly contribute to economic and social development. The city of Lipik, as a local self-government unit that achieves savings in energy consumption through the use of renewable energy sources for heating public buildings, will become an example of good energy efficiency practice that others will be able to follow. It will also contribute to economic development because it will become a more interesting area for potential investors who will recognize their business opportunities with reduced costs for the use of energy sources. This will contribute to an increase in employment, a decrease in unemployment, a decrease in the depopulation of this predominantly rural area, and a better economic and overall social climate in the local area.

To this end, the Izvori Lipika d.o.o. company submitted a “Proposal” to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development for the announcement of a public tender for the selection of the most favorable bidder for the exploration of geothermal waters in order to issue a permit for the extraction of geothermal waters in the proposed exploration area “LIPIK”

In the town of Lipik, there are sources of geothermal water, which is highly valued and primarily used for therapy, treatment, bathing, and drinking. Centuries-old tradition in treatment is based, first of all, on the healing properties of the water, which has a constant source temperature of 62 degrees, and due to its chemical composition, has extraordinary balneological characteristics. It is believed that even the ancient Romans knew about the benefits of Lipik’s thermal water, but the first records date from the 16th century. The spa in Lipik was mentioned as early as 1517 under the name “Lipička vrela”.
